Lili In Dunedin
We just finished with breakfast, and it was very good. Grandpa and I both ate blueberry muffins that had lots of blueberries in them. Driving with Grandpa was very weird, because I got to sit in the front on the left side which is normally where the driver sits. Grandpa Jim also kept using the windshield wipers instead of turn signals so I jokingly told him this morning that in New Zealand people have to look to see if people's windshields wipers are on to see if they are going to turn. It could get very confusing if it's raining though... Mom and GG are walking by the beach while Grandpa and I are looking at it from the hotel room. Yesterday we saw about ten surfers in the waster even though it seemed to be fifty degrees outside-very cold to be in the water. The plane ride was VERY comfortable! We had a screen that we could watch movies, play games, and listen to music along other things. We also got waffles in the morning that were great. Grandpa just proof read this and said that people have to look at the windows to see if a crazy American is driving. Lili

ReplyDeleteYou may wonder who Jane Doe is, its me, Iris! i wrote a long message but couldn't remember my google account so I used Emma's. Hopefully, I can recreate what I said.
ReplyDeleteJim and Lillian, your writing is wonderful and it was fun to get your individual perspectives. It is very generous of you to take the time to share this once in a lifetime experience with us. It will be very special to share in a virtual way your trip. We really appreciate it.
We were in Chicago and immediately following Emma was on a school trip to Sequoia National Park. She spent the week snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tubing, taking pictures, playing instruments, etc. and this was Outdoor "Education." I know the trip was amazing. She opened your wonderful gift and loving note. She is spending one more night with friends and will be able to acknowledge it tomorrow. We were all so touched by your words.
We will be on a different "journey" over the next few weeks as a pipe burst in our wall and our kitchen has been quite "gutted." The floor will be replaced and the cabinet "boxes." We are kind of hoping the cabinets will not go back in because then.... We have industrial fans blowing and I can't cook so it will be a different kind of "vacation!'
We are so grateful that you will take the time to share your experiences. It will be an adventure for us too and also give you a permanent record of this incredible trip.
Lots of love to you all,
Iris and Steve (Emma will join us tomorrow)
Hi Iris. Thanks for the comment. "Jane Doe" did have us puzzled, so glad to know who it was. Sounds like you all aren't letting the grass grow under your feet! We're looking forward to Scott and Claira's arrival tomorrow. If Air New Zealand was on time they should be several hundred miles out of LAX at this moment. Hope this weather improves as it's been quite cool, windy and overcast with brief showers from time to time. Will be posting an update tomorrow. Jim, Susan, Rebecca, and Lillian
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it there safe and sound and are taking time to get over the jet lag.
ReplyDeleteSunny here but in the high 40s with some wind. Kitty is at the Library getting ready for tomorrow's dedication and festivities. We picked up the Silverado truck today from Copple. Fits nicely in the garage. Not sure if I want to go ahead and get the plow but afraid if I don't will surely snow - especially now that Susan is gone.
We will be attending the concert tonight with the Newlands.
Be careful with the right-hand drive - we scraped a car in England one time years ago trying to adjust to the change. Was always difficult making a turn not to turn into the wrong lane and to watch in the correct direction for the on-coming traffic.
David and Kitty
Hi Kentsmiths, I'm getting the hang of this left lane convention in NZ, but one does have to think twice when you come to a turn! One more day and we'll be done with the driving. By all means postpone getting the plow....Susan wants more snow after we get home. Will make a new post to describe our recent activities. Jim

Hi Emma! Good to hear from you. Sounds like you've been on quite a wonderful trip of your own up in the sequoias! Scott and Claira arrived today so we are ready for the biking. We're winding up the day here, and I'm trying to reply to these comments before hitting the sack. The girls, Scott and Rebecca have read your comment and send their best. Jim
